About our farm

Nestled in the mountains of Magoebaskloof, our family farm has always been a place where people gather.

Long before weddings, cabins and craft beer, this land was a working potato farm. Over the years, as the world around us changed, so did the farm. What began as a place of agriculture slowly evolved into a place of connection, celebration and rest.

The story of our wedding venue began almost by accident. My mother lovingly restored the original farmhouse so that my brother could celebrate his 21st birthday here on the farm. Not long afterwards, a close friend asked if she could get married here. We thought, "Why not?" At the time we had no commercial kitchen, no grand plans and very little idea of what we were doing. We simply loved good food, gathering people together and creating memorable experiences. We cooked meals in our family kitchens, carried dishes down garden paths and served guests with grateful hearts.

That first wedding sparked something special.

Today, our farm is home to three unique experiences: Minas Farm Venue, where we host heartfelt celebrations; Zwakala River Retreat, where guests can slow down and reconnect with nature; and Zwakala Brewery, where craft beer, good conversation and community come together.

Although the businesses have grown, we remain a family-run farm at heart. The people who work alongside us have become family too. Many of our team members have been part of our journey for years, helping us create the warm, personal experience that guests often tell us makes this place feel different.

At the centre of everything is our love for hospitality. We believe in gathering around long tables, sharing good food, celebrating life's milestones and creating spaces where people can truly relax and be themselves.

Our vegetable garden supplies fresh produce to our kitchens wherever possible, and we are continually finding ways to become more connected to the land that sustains us.

Mission

Our vision is to create a thriving, regenerative farm where people can experience a slower, more meaningful way of living.

Over the last few years, we have begun the journey of rewilding the farm—allowing nature to flourish, restoring ecosystems and working with the land rather than against it. Alongside this, we have transformed the farm into a completely off-grid destination, powered independently and designed to tread more lightly on the earth.

We hope that when guests visit, they experience more than just a wedding, a cabin or a brewery. We hope they experience the feeling of waking to birdsong, walking through wild gardens, swimming in clear rivers, sharing meals made with care and reconnecting with what truly matters.

This farm has always been a place where people come together.

We feel incredibly grateful to share it with you.

Vision

To create a thriving, regenerative farm where people can gather, celebrate, rest and reconnect with nature.

We envision a future where hospitality and sustainability walk hand in hand. A place where weddings feel meaningful, accommodation invites true rest, food is grown with care, and the land itself becomes healthier with every passing year.

As we continue our journey of rewilding the farm and living completely off-grid, our hope is that every guest leaves feeling more connected—to nature, to the people they love and to themselves.

We believe that the most memorable experiences are often the simplest: sharing a meal around a table, walking through a forest, sitting beside a fire, swimming in a river, celebrating life's milestones and creating memories that last for generations.

Our vision is to preserve and nurture this special place so that it can be enjoyed by our family, our community and future generations for many years to come.
